Combine your love of the sea with the camaraderie and fun of Freemasonry

Solent based special interest Lodge, Spinnaker Lodge, aims to take Freemasonry out to the sailing community and holds its summer meetings at Masonic Centres close to marinas.  Friends, wives and girlfriends join members for dinner at the local yacht club – Our Spinnaker wives and girlfriends, or ‘SWAGS’ as they are affectionately known, have become firm friends.

The summer meetings are fun weekend affairs with our boats arriving at the designated marina on Friday afternoons with the Lodge burgees and masonic flags flying.  A ‘pontoon party’ is often held on the Saturday afternoon afterwards  changed into the Lodge dress code of blazer, chinos and deck shoes we head to our Lodge meeting.

The meetings continue the nautical theme with gavels substituted by a belaying pin, a deadeye and a serving mallet – all items retrieved from classic sailing yachts and the lodge burgee flying on the Senior Warden’s pedestal.

Dining is less formal than at a normal masonic meeting and regularly includes a short talk by a member or invited guest on a subject of nautical interest. The evening’s end with a rendition of ‘What shall we do with a drunken sailor’, before retiring to our boats and a sail home the following day.

We welcome joining members and visiting Freemasons…
